A clutch disc, also known as a clutch plate, is a rotating metal plate that connects a vehicle's engine to its transmission

The clutch disc's friction material pads generate torque, and the disc's splined hub is connected to the transmission input shaft. Most clutch discs have torsional springs in the hub to make engagement smoother.
A clutch's purpose is to give the driver control over the car for accelerating, decelerating, and stopping. Without a clutch, the engine would stall when the car stops.
